The New York Mafia Wants To Fight ISIS, Which Sure, Yea, Whatever, Why Not?

Perhaps the best, most logical way to defeat the Islamic State is to develop a broad coalition of willing nations, ones who can bring together massive amounts of both firepower and intelligence resources, as well as a collective resolve for long-term nation-building, then send them into Syria and Iraq to both fight the radical factions there while creating support from the people of those nations who are essential to the stability of the region over time.

Or we could, like, send in the mob or some shit.

That’s what the mafia thinks’ll work. Giovanni Gambino, son of legendary crime boss John Gambino, part of La Cosa Nostra, the Sicilian mafia, thinks the mob could make quick work of ISIS, and that doing so would give the mafia the chance to show that they’ve got some good in them.

Like I said in the headline, sure, yea, whatever, why not?

But is this all bullshit posturing? Not if you ask Gambino, who says his crime group is already fighting ISIS. In a press release, he said:

“The world is dangerous today, but people living in New York neighborhoods with Sicilian connections should feel safe. We make sure our friends and families are protected from extremists and terrorists, especially the brutal, psychopathic organization that calls itself the Islamic State.”

Gambino also says that ISIS “fears the Sicilian Mafia,” which is why it has no presence on Sicily.

But it’s more than just keeping blood safe. This, he thinks, will be the mob’s big break.

“The Mafia has a bad reputation, but much of that’s undeserved. As with everything in life, there are good, bad and ugly parts – the rise of global terrorism gives the Mafia a chance to show its good side.”

Again, word. Whatever.
