Samsung smartwatch on the way

Ever since Pebble, a smartwatch built around e-paper, took off on Kickstarter, every major tech company has decided that you want a smartwatch. Whether this is actually true or not is a matter of some debate.

Apple

Nonetheless, Samsung has one on the way.

While they were vague about features and price, Samsung has confirmed they’re working on one, probably because Apple is making one and Samsung wants to beat Apple to market just once.

While we haven’t seen any design mockups of the Samsung smartwatch yet, the Apple smartwatch mockup we’ve attached to this post should illustrate the problem; you probably wouldn’t want to wear that monstrosity with a suit. Watches are a mix between a useful device and fashion accessory, and most smartwatches look like they should be on the wrist of a fifth grader, not a grown man.

And that’s likely going to be the wall most of these products hit: An iPad is one thing, but something you strap to your body? If this has a wide variety of faces and bands, we can see it working. Otherwise, it’ll go the way of… well… most smartwatches.
