Tokyo Game Show in a nutshell, part 1

By / 09.20.12

As noted over the past few days, Japan’s biggest game related gathering, Tokyo Game Show, is happening right this second. And as also noted over the past few weeks, the game industry in those parts is in total shambles. So what does that mean for this year’s TGS? Slim pickings.

Here we have part one of my round up, though it’s hard to say if there will be part two. We may have seen all the big guns, and everything else will just be creepy dating sims (which I used to dig, but even that stuff gets old after a while).

But right off the back is something awesome: remember how the creator of Mega Man is doing a ninja game? Well, turns out, the creator of is actually doing a Ninja Gaiden game…

Keiji Inafune also has another game in the pipeline, for the Vita, in which one gives up a part of their body to create attacks. Or something like that…

Dead or Alive 5 had gotten plenty of mentions in these here parts, and here we have the final launch trailer…

Thus far, Capcom has been one of the dominant forces at the show, with a ton of stuff handy. Like the latest look at the Devil May Cry reboot. Which, thankfully, keeps looking nicer…

Any Phoenix Wright fans in the house? Well, the fifth Ace Attorney game is on the way, for the 3DS, featuring some fairly sweet 3D graphics…

Oh, and a PS2 classic, Okami, is being brought back onto the PS3 with enhanced visuals. Unlike most HD facelifts, it actually works in this instance. As for the game itself, it’s basically Legend of Zelda but you’re a Japanese wolf god…

Capcom was also pimping Resident Evil 6 (which has gotten plenty of attention this week alone) and the Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken (lol). But the focus was squarely on the Monster Hunter franchise, which is an absolute phenomenon in Japan, but which has hardly made a blip in America. But the upcoming part 4 for the 3DS might actually change all that…

And finally, back to Mega Man, here’s the first trailer for the aforementioned sh*t-sandwich for all fans of that beloved franchise. Just look at this crap, Jesus Crist…
