Remembering Steinbrenner Through ‘Seinfeld’: 10 Classic Clips

George Steinbrenner, who died this morning, acquired the Yankees in 1973 and became one of the most storied franchise owners in sports history, winning 11 championships and earning his fair share of colorful tabloid appearances throughout the '70s, '80s, and early '90s. He was also an heir to a shipbuilding fortune in Cleveland and a one-time Ohio State University master's student who worked as a graduate assistant under Woody Hayes. And yet his greatest legacy — well, at least the one that will live on forever in syndication — is his immortalization on "Seinfeld" via Larry David's classic caricatures. Week after week, The Boss was simply the man behind the desk, insisting that the Yankees "Hire this man!" and lecturing George Costanza about his love for "fancy mustard." Here's a 10-clip collection of classic "Seinfeld"/Steinbrenner moments to memorialize the passing of a legendary sports and comedy figure.

 "Big Stein needs his calzone!!!"

We wanna look to the future, we gotta tear down the past.      Babe
Ruth was nothing more than a fat old man, with little-girl legs.  And here’s
something I just found out recently. He wasn’t really a Sultan.  Ah, what       d’you
make of that? Hey, check this out. (he stands to reveal he’s wearing baseball
pants) Lou Gehrig’s pants. Not a bad fit. (a thought occurs)  Hey, you       don’t
think that nerve disease of his was contagious, do you? Uh, I better take       ‘em
off. I’m too important to this team. (removes the pants to reveal his       boxers)
Big Stein can’t be flopping and twitching!
