Rory McIlroy was welcomed into the Nike Golf clique (clique, clique, clique, clique) today with this clever little ad—a sort-of update on the famous Michael Jordan/Larry Bird HORSE commercial from the '80s that has McIlroy and Tiger Woods going shot-for-shot on a driving range which looks, somehow, to be in Florida and Chicago.

The ad represents a big move for McIlroy. Switching manufacturers after the best year of his career to go all-Nike is, obviously, risky. He's getting paid a mint to make the move (some rumors put it at $20 million a year), but there's the possibility that his game will suffer when he stops playing with that magic Pro V1. Even if the change is mostly mental.

The ad also got me and J. Camm—two of the more shameless Tiger homers outside of Jupiter, Florida—thinking. What are the best Tiger ads ever?

Fuck yeah, it's YouTube Trip Down Memory Lane time. (Warning: If you're a golf fan, this might spur a three-hour session looking up old clips. Remember this? Or this? Every great shot is on there.)
