Ninth-ranked South Carolina was able to survive a scare from Vanderbilt Thursday night and hang on for a 17-13 win. It didn’t come without controversy, however.
One of the SEC’s finest officials chose not to call this – dare we say … obvious – pass interference on a fourth-down heave with 1:47 to go. Check out the replay. It sure looks like Gamecocks cornerback D.J. Swearinger yanks down Vandy wide receiver Jordan Matthews’ arm well before the ball arrives.
"You did know the SEC just came out with very clear rules about talking about the officials and what happens after games," Vanderbilt coach James Franklin said. "Trying to get me fined?"
Matthews refused to comment on the no-call, though he waved his arms looking for a flag.
"I've got to get more open," Matthews said.
Looks like they’re anchoring down and taking the high road in Nashville. But do they have legitimate cause to be steamed? Just how bad was this no-call?
