If you've read or seen "Moneyball" you probably recognize some of the words used to describe MLB draft prospects. Now, I imagine the life of a scout to be a boring one and sometimes maybe all they have to pass the time is finding a new way to describe a player's ability to field or hit. I'm sure there's a reason they do it. Using off-the-wall describers probably helps them remember who exactly they're talking about. After all, why else would you describe someone as having a "fervent in hit approach" and not just say "swings hard?"
