The Portland Timbers of the MLS might not have had the budget for a fancy star like Rihanna or Bruno Mars to sing the National Anthem at their games, but what they did was infinitely more awesome than what any pop star could have done.

The Portland MLS team has given the name of "Timbers Army" to their impassioned fans. At the Timbers home opener they had the 20,000 strong Timbers Army sing a spirited National Army. The same patriotic scene occurred a year ago in Portland's inaugural season's home opener. The moving display of emotion and patriotism rallied the Timbers to beat the Philadelphia Union 3-1 in the rain and mud.
