This may go down as one of the funniest announcer screw-ups in history: Wizards play-by-play man Steve Buckhantz screamed "Dagger!" last night after Trevor Ariza heaved a last-second corner three-pointer... and airballed it. It takes Buckhantz a pretty long amount of time to figure out that the swingman's shot actually fell well short—a time during which the Washington crowd stays quiet and the Pistons players celebrate—but when the play-by-play man finally does realize his mistake, he drops a great line. "The dagger has been retracted!"

To Buckhantz's credit, it really did look like Ariza hit the three. Detroit Pistons announcing crew George Blaha and Greg Kelser made the same mistake, as you can see below.

The crews' only difference? Enthusiasm. You're not going to make the blogs if you screw up without a screamed catchphrase.
