I'm not a big MMA guy, and I know that you MMA'ers are very protective about your sport, so my apologies if I show any ignorance here. However, even with my limited knowledge, I'm pretty, pretty sure that winning the XFC championship with only one arm is an incredible thing to do.
That's what happened Friday night when Nick Newell—who was born with a condition called congenital amputation that results in his left arm stopping just past his elbow—brought his opponent, Eric Reynolds, down to the mat 82 seconds into their championship bout, and then performed a rear-naked choke to win the belt. The move came ridiculously early in the fight, but the undefeated Newell does that a lot. Three of his nine wins have come less than three minutes into the match. Now, early buzz says that he may be ready to make a move to the UFC.
The best part of the video? After his quick win, the camera pans to a kid also born with congenital amputation who Newell had invited to watch the fight. He's SO fired up. (It's getting a little dusty in here.)
