Holy hell, the New York state high school basketball playoffs are insane. First, we had New Rochelle’s logic-defying buzzer-beater that catapulted the primaries onto national talk shows. Now we have this incredible scene from Saturday, when Batavia took down top-ranked Olean with another thrilling shot.
Jeff Redband, a sophomore who had been recently been pulled up from junior varsity, sank the deciding shot and set off a wild celebration.
You’ll want to keep your eye on the Blue Devils mascot. He nobly takes time out from his carrying on to console a devastated player of the opposing team the mob had unwittingly trampled.
You rarely see that type of sportsmanship from people in sweaty animal-themed jumpsuits.
