Bernard James was the feel-good story of last night’s NBA Draft.
The 27-year-old center from Florida State was selected 33rd overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers and then traded to the Dallas Mavericks. It’s the next twist in a long and windy road for the big man, who spent six years in the Air Force and served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Qatar.
The well-read fans at Newark’s Prudential Center serenaded him with chants of “U-S-A, U-S-A” after his name was announced.
A chilling and inspiring moment for sure.
