You shouldn't take selfies or even really say the word "selfie" anyway—I'm sorry, I couldn't think of an acceptable substitute and "self-shot" isn't a word—but Tampa Bay Rays reporter Kelly Nash gave us the ultimate reason this weekend to not turn the camera on yourself: You will get hit in the face by a foul ball.
Nash was in town to cheat on her hometown Rays and watch Astros-Red Sox game. During the Sox batting practice she stood in the left field, atop the Green Monster, and snapped the above photo. A ball sailed by her head at the perfect moment. And, somehow!, she didn't notice that the baseball had come that close to hitting her until she saw the finished product.
"My whole family is from Massachusetts, and I knew they would be so excited to see me working at Fenway Park, and when I went to text them the picture I noticed the baseball by my head!" Nash said later. "I laughed pretty hard when I saw such a surreal picture that I had no idea I took. I thought, you have got to be kidding me, maybe there ARE really angels in the outfield. I actually brought the movie with me on the trip and had it in my bag at the game."
(Somewhere, Christopher Lloyd is nodding silently and flapping his arms once.)
It's important to note that Nash took this amazing, once-in-a-lifetime photo and STILL couldn't bring herself to not totally ruin it with a filter. Selfie people will never learn.
