Here Are Our NFL Week 2 Picks Against The Spread

What did we learn after last night other than the fact that Ravens’ fans for some reason continue to support someone fired for domestic violence? Don’t overreact about Week 1! Baltimore offense looked miserable against the Cincinnati Bengals, but it was good enough to get 26 points on the board last night. Pittsburgh’s three turnovers certainly helped, but the Bengals executed. More importantly, you have to give their defense credit for holding Cincinnati to five field goals before the late somewhat-fluky touchdown last week and holding Pittsburgh down this week. They’re winning the Super Bowl! (Kidding obviously…)

Locks of the Week:

CAROLINA -2.5 over Detroit
Everyone’s on board with Detroit after they laid the wood on the Giants, but let’s remember how bad the Giants were in that game. Carolina went on the road with their backup quarterback and beat a solid Bucs team. Their defense is superior to Detroit’s and Detroit’s defense is bad enough to make Carolina’s look really good. Cam Newton is back and he’s focused.

Kyle’s pick: Detroit

TAMPA BAY -6 over St. Louis

Speaking of that solid Bucs team, they get to regroup at home against the Rams. That’s fantastic because the Rams season is already over. The quarterback and running back situation are both a mess and their defense isn’t as intimidating now that Chris Long is out for 8 weeks.

Kyle’s pick: Tampa Bay

GREEN BAY -9 over N.Y. Jets

The Packers are going to truck the Jets for the reasons mentioned in yesterday’s survivor pick. Dee Milner may be coming back to help the secondary, but he needs to prove he’s worth of his draft position because he wasn’t great last year. But will the Jumbotrons in the stadium show girls in bikinis?

Kyle’s pick: Green Bay

Trap Game of the Week:

MINNESOTA +3 over New England

The casual fan will see this pick and think I’m nuts. And maybe I am. I thought about changing it to the Patriots, but my gut said take the Vikings at home getting points. Peterson should run through the Pats like Knowshon Moreno did last week. The Vikings defense should be able to bring pressure on Tom Brady like the Dolphins’ defensive line did last week. Guess we’ll see what happens.

Kyle’s pick: New England

Rest of the Picks:

CINCINNATI -5 over Atlanta

The Falcons will likely have a hangover after beating their division rival New Orleans Saints last week. Cincinnati’s defense is night and day compared to New Orleans. Their pass rush will get to Matt Ryan since his offensive line is decimated by injury and will cause him problems.

Kyle’s pick: Cincy

Dallas +3.5 over TENNESSEE

I’m probably taking the Cowboys on name here. Tony Romo should bounce back as he usually does after a three interception game. Tennessee beating up on a bad Chiefs offense that didn’t feature its best player and a defense ruined by injury doesn’t impress me.

Kyle’s pick: Dallas

Jacksonville +7 over WASHINGTON

Washington’s going to have to show me some more offense than last week before I pick them to win by more than a touchdown.

Kyle’s pick: Jacksonville

N.Y. GIANTS -2.5 over Arizona

We have another hangover game. Arizona’s also coming off a short week and kicking off early on the East Coast. The Giants just better find a way to get their offense going.

Kyle’s pick: New York

Miami PK over BUFFALO

Buffalo had everything work for them last week. That usually doesn’t happen for a mediocre team in consistent weeks. Miami is legit after they beat up the Patriots in the second half last week. Their running backs should dominate Buffalo in the same way Matt Forte did last week.

Kyle’s pick: Buffalo

CLEVLEAND +7 over New Orleans

Cleveland adjusted their game plan tremendously in the second half last week. It gives me hope that they’ll be more prepared this week.

Kyle’s pick: New Orleans

SAN DIEGO +6 over Seattle

Seattle is going to win the Super Bowl, but they’re not the same dominant team on the road. San Diego is feisy at home, so I’ll take the points.

Kyle’s pick: San Diego

Kansas City +13 over DENVER

This may get ugly since Kansas City’s defense isn’t equipped to contain Denver with all of KC’s injuries, but the points are a lot to swallow given Kansas City is generally the same team that made the playoffs last year. Jamaal Charles will be more involved.

Kyle’s pick: Denver

Houston -2.5 over OAKLAND

The Texans will win a lot of games this year because of their defense. It’s led by this newly minted rich guy named J.J. Watt. You may’ve heard of him. Derek Carr will be in for a rude awakening in only his second NFL start.

Kyle’s pick: Houston

Chicago +7.5 over SAN FRANCISCO

Chicago needs their wide receivers to be healthy, but they came in a little too cocky last week. I have faith in Mark Trestman for some reason and I still don’t believe San Francisco’s defense is that good. Tony Romo just threw into triple teams during multiple occasions last week. If Chicago plays a smart road game, they’ll be in this one.

Kyle’s pick: Chicago

Philadelphia +3 over INDIANAPOLIS

LeSean McCoy will be tipping all the waitresses in Indianapolis this weekend. This game will be a tight one with a lot of points. I don’t like the way the Colts generally start slow. The pressure is slowly building on Chuck Pagano. Fans are starting to get restless with both him and the general manager.

Kyle’s pick: Indy
