If you’re like me, you watch golf regardless of whether or not Tiger Woods is in contention or even in the tournament. You want him there, sure, but you just like watching golf (and annoying the shit out of your wife on a weekly basis). Sadly, for the game of golf, people like me are few and far between and ratings are complete shit when Tiger isn’t in a tournament. Most casual golf fans just want to see Tiger ALL THE FUCKING TIME. ESPN has a solution for this: a Tiger-only broadcast during the 2014 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool. No matter how bad he’s playing, he will be on TV.
According to ESPN Media Zone:
With Tiger Woods making his first start of the year in a major, ESPN3 will offer a feed following Woods for his entire round each day he plays. If Woods does not advance to the weekend, other players will be spotlighted.
Given the ratings dip in this year’s Masters and U.S. Open, because Tiger was recovering from back surgery, this isn’t the most insane idea ever.
