Even with 50-1 odds, everyone probably laughed at Benjamin Lyons when he bet $1,000 the first scoring play of the Super Bowl would be a safety. Who's laughing now? Tom Brady's first-quarter intentional grounding penalty in the end zone netted Lyons a cool $50,000.
The real winner of this prop bet had to be Vegas. After all, what kind of a sick person would throw down on a safety over a touchdown or field goal?
It was just the sixth safety in Super Bowl history and the second time it was the first score of the game.
