Rugby Player Facing Lifetime Ban From Sport For Attacking Ref And The Craziest Part Is The Player Is 11 Years Old

Rugby is a rough sport. There’s punching, kicking, head butting, a ton of blood and that’s just what happens to the refs. Maybe not at the professional level but refs in kid rugby games are getting beat down.

The Auckland Rugby Union says violence in junior rugby in the region is not common after an 11-year-old boy allegedly tackled a referee to the ground and punched him during a under-12 club match at the Papatoetoe sports grounds on Saturday morning.

The Papatoetoe club player is alleged to have carried out the attack after being given a yellow card for a high tackle during a game against Marist Eastern and could face a life ban from rugby. The match was abandoned after the player and referee were separated.

The referee was not physically injured in the attack but was “certainly affected.” The boy was said to be “distraught” after the game and left the area immediately.

If the kid gets a lifetime ban I’d be willing to adopt him and move him to the US. There’s a pee wee football ref in my area that could use a little swift justice for his awful officiating. I don’t even care that he’s my dad.
