Professional poker player Gus Hansen—one of the sport's most recognizable faces—is on a bit of a cold streak. How cold? Since FullTilt.com relaunched 11 months ago, Hansen has lost $8.8 million on the site. He's down $5.6 million in 2013. And in the last 30 days, the dude has gambled away $1.5 million. This handy chart illustrates the online trainwreck, via CardPlayer.com:
Hansen may be completely broke. According to CardPlayer.com, the player has cashed in around $10 million lifetime in live tournaments, but that figure doesn't factor in buy-ins and his online troubles—meaning it's possible he's lost more than he's made as a pro. (Kind of hilariously, Hansen is FullTilt's "brand ambassador." No favoritism there.)
I find this fascinating. Gambling is no bullshit. You can lose your livelihood playing the game straight-up. What other sport can say that?
