According to Callaway CEO Chip Brewer, Mickelson came up with the idea for the visit. “This wasn't even planned. Phil texted me this morning asking me if he could come by,” he said. Lefty—who wore flip-flops, because off-day, brah—told the crowd that he would stay until every employee got a moment with the Claret Jug. This, of course, led to dozens of tweets with the hashtag #speechless, which, more than likely, were kind of passive-aggresively directed at those poor saps across the street at TaylorMade.
(In all seriousness, while the Masters may carry more prestige in certain circles, the Jug is undoubtedly the coolest trophy in golf. You're going to want to linger a bit while holding it.)
