Most people watching yesterday’s Denver Broncos-Indianapolis Colts game couldn’t help wondering what the hell was going on with Peyton Manning. The future Hall of Famer looked like hot garbage en route to an early playoff exit at the hands of a much sprier Andrew Luck.
And now we may have an idea just what was ailing Manning.
Broncos QB Peyton Manning played Sunday’s Divisional Playoff loss and the past month of the season with a torn right quad, per two sources.

“”
Specifically: Peyton Manning has a torn rectus femoris, which runs down center of thigh. Bruising was so severe it spread to back of his leg

Yes. That certainly sounds painful.
During the CBS broadcast yesterday, Phil Simms said Manning uses his legs to throw more than any other quarterback. Having a completely bum leg would explain some of the wimpy throws and a complete lack of interest in scrambling.
Also, a torn rectus femoris is not what I expected. And significantly less disgusting.
