As heaven on earth returns, we've got you covered with the best highlights and other notable moments from around the league. Stick around for updates as first slate of games come to a close, and the second batch of games gets underway:
David Akers Makes History
Veteran kicker David (Green) Akers tied an NFL record with this obscene 63 yard field goal. Thanks to the fortunate bounce, the 49ers have taken the lead over the defending NFC regular season champs. Akers is quite excited.
RGII Welcomes Himself to the NFL
If today has been any indication, RGIII is going to be the savior the Skins faithful have been so fervently longing for. Here's his first-ever NFL touchdown pass, an 88 yard hookup with Pierre Garcon. Griffin finished the first half 11-13 with 188 yards and 2 touchdowns, posting a perfect 158.3 quarterback rating.
Trent Richardson Powers Through
Trent Richardson trucks Kurt Coleman, and his helment doesn't stick around to see the rest.
Gronk Spikes The Air
Gronk, always doin' it for the chicks, got on the board late in the first half. A failed celebration, or a resounding success?
Tony G Still Has It
Speaking of tight ends, the 36-year-old Tony Gonzalez can still throw it down. This came after a 7 yard TD pass in the 3rd quarter, which extended the Falcons lead to 34-17. Atlanta cruised to a 40-24 victory.
Jay Cutler shows off his Mr. Hyde
One of the league's more colorful quarterbacks showed off his downside early with this ill-advised pass. Cutler recovered nicely however, throwing for over 300 yards and two touchdowns, won won comfortably over the Colts.
The Jets have a day
This is Mark Sanchez connecting with Stephen Hill for a 33 yard touchdown early in the second quarter. After an anemic preseason, the Jets have posted more points today (48) than some thought they would all season.
Stafford, up in the air
Matt Stafford disappointed some fantasy football hopefuls earlier today, throwing 3 INTS, inlcuding a pick six in the first half alone. He also recovered nicely though, throwing for 355 yards and a touchdown as the Lions pulled off a close victory against Jeff Fisher and the upstart Rams.
AP Returns, Gabbert Proves Worth
After a catastrophic knee injury, Adrian Peterson returned to old form with two touchdowns today. This game has seen some solid late-game heroics--including this Blaine Gabbert throw to Cecil shorts, which put the Jags up 23-20 with less than a minute remaining. Unfortunately for Gabbert and co., the Vikes responded with a game-tying 55 yard field goal by rookie kicker Blair Walsh, who then secured a Vikings victory with a 38 yarder in overtime.
Andre Johnson Continues Being Andre Johnson
He is good. The Texans won by a score of 30-10.
Michael Vick Goes from Suck to Hero On a Late TD Pass to Clay Harbor
Down 10-16 with 4 interceptions on the day, Vick connected with Clay Harbor late in the 4th to give the Birds a win against the Browns, 17-16.
In the third quarter of the 49ers-Packers contest, Vernon Davis hauled in a sweet touchdown catch to extend the 49ers lead. He then showed why he should probably stick to his day job.
