The big red NOT PLAYING THE GAME THE RIGHT WAY alarm has never gone off with as much force as it did last night during the New York Mets-New York Yankees series.
Obviously pleased with his inning-ending strikeout of Brett Gardner, Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejia decided to do some sort of backward jig off the mound. It wasn’t a full moon walk and it wasn’t a full grapevine. What it was, however, was exceedingly cocky.
In a fair and just world, Mejia would have fallen victim to sudden Chad Qualls Syndrome. Alas, we do not exist in a fair and just world.
