The New York Islanders Are Moving to Brooklyn

By / 10.24.12

The team will trade in Nassau Coliseum for new digs at the Barclays Center, according to a person involved in the deal.

Islanders owner Charles Wang and Barclays Center developer Bruce Ratner are planning to announce the news later Wednesday, the person said. The two men have scheduled a “major announcement” with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for 1 p.m.

Another person advised of the plans said the move from Long Island to Brooklyn is scheduled to happen in 2015, when the Islanders' lease expires at Nassau Coliseum.
