So that was quick. After a 1-4 start, the Lakers have parted ways with Mike Brown according to the LA Times. The move comes a few days after an intense stare down from Kobe Bryant that led some to believe there was existing tension between the two.
Assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff will coach tonight’s game against Golden State but the Lakers will conduct a national search for a long term replacement. Candidates could include Mike D’Antoni, Jerry Sloan, Nate McMillan and Phil Jackson.
I’m sorry, Phil Jackson? Uh, he retired and was last seen with YOUR team. Weird.
Anyways, so that’s that. Mike Brown was never a good fit with the organization and has proved he can’t coach elite level players to a championship (see LeBron). He’ll get recycled as an NBA head coach in due time, though, it may be awhile before he gets a shot again.
