Michael Bradley had the ball with seconds remaining in the game. Nobody was near him. The game was all but over. Michael Bradley could have simply punted the ball towards the goalie and the final whistle would have blown. The U.S. would be round of 16. Instead this happened—arguably the worst turnover in USMNT history.
I compared it to Larry Bird’s steal of Isiah Thomas in the 1987 Eastern Conference Finals. Yes, it was that bad. It was so boneheaded. It was so stupid. Sure, the U.S. has a good chance of advancing. They need only a draw against Germany to move on. But man, this is textbook “snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.”
