Philadelphia Radio Legend Merrill Reese’s Call Of The Eagles OT Touchdown To Beat The Cowboys Will Give You Chills

As he’s been since 1977, Philadelphia radio legend Merrill Reese was at the helm on WIP sports radio for the call of Jordan Matthews’ overtime touchdown reception that saw the Eagles best their bitter NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys, 33-27. Matthews’ monumental catch surely put the naysayers to bed after his inconsistent streak of dropped passes coming into the game, and it also breathed new life into the Eagles’ season as they now sit at 2-2 in their division and 4-4 overall.

As you can imagine, the excitement was abundant for Birds’ fans when Matthews reeled in the 41-yard game-winner, and 73-year-old Merrill Reese conveyed that about as well as anyone could.

“The Eagles Win! The game is over! Jordan Matthews catches the pass from Bradford and takes it home and the Eagles win in overtime!!!”

Give a listen:

I’ve listened 8 times now and it still gives me chills. Whoa.

As much as Philadelphia’s win might prove to be season-defining for them, Dallas’ loss may be more impactful in the long-run. The Cowboys now sit at 2-6. No team in NFL history has ever recovered from 2-6 to make the playoffs, and that fact certainly makes the sweet victory even sweeter for Eagles fans this morning, having essentially thwarted the Cowboys’ playoff hopes already, only halfway through the season.
