The marlin wins this round.
Well, sort of.
According to Marlin Magazine, last Thursday a charter fishing vessel in Panama managed to land a monster black marlin. Judging by the pics that appear on their Facebook page, the anglers managed to get the fish relatively close to the boat before the captain performed a big "oopsie." He went to "back down" the boat toward the fish, pushing the stern straight into a wave. When the wave hit the boat the captain slipped and hit the throttle into full reverse, which caused the boat to continue taking on waves over the stern, eventually swamping it. Inevitably, it sunk.
So, in otherwords, the marlin didn't really sink the boat. It was much more indirect. The crew just happened to be reeling it in when they screwed up. It's incredible that the guy fighting the fish was able to keep a hold of the rod while the boat waws leaning almost 45-degrees to the starboard. That's a feat of both spectacular balance and strength. Have to imagine he let the straps on his rod harness go shortly after these photos were snapped. You know, to avoid drowning and all.
Regardless, fighting a massive black marlin while swamping a boat is definitely one of the better fishing stories you'll ever hear. Better luck next time.
