Guy Scores Goal, Crowd Throws 25,291 Stuffed Animals Onto Ice

Take, for instance, the annual Calgary Hitmen tradition of allowing fans to toss tens of thousands of teddy bears on the ice after a goal for the home team. You were probably watching dull American sports and didn’t even notice that this blessed event took place over the weekend.

Ukrainian center Pavel Padakin scored the stuffed-animal-bringing goal for the second time in his career, allowing all hell to break loose. In total, the 17,199 fans heaved 25,291 stuffed toys onto the rink.

It was really quite a spectacle, but fell short of the all-time record of 26,919 items tossed in 2007.
