Watch This 22-Year-Old Bro Chug Four Beers And Set A New Beer Mile World Record In Under 5 Minutes

A University of Western Ontario student is living the goddamn dream. He holds the world record for the ‘Beer Mile’ at 4 minutes, 51 seconds, a record he set this week when he broke his own previous world record, and now he’s signed a shoe and apparel deal. If you’re not familiar with the ‘Beer Mile‘ it’s a feat that consists of running one mile and drinking 4 beers over the course of that mile.

Lewis Kent is a 22-year-old college student from Ontario, and he’s just been signed to both a shoe and apparel deal by Brooks Canada, a high-end running company. Now all he needs is a brewery to step up to the plate and hook him up with unlimited beer so that he can truly hone his role as the Beer Mile World Champion (and record holder).

ESPN’s Darren Rovell reports that Brooks would not disclose any details regarding their two-year sponsorship deal with Lewis Kent, a first-of-its-kind deal for the sport of Beer Mile Running:

It is believed to be the first mainstream sponsorship for the sport, in which participants must drink four beers over the course of a 1-mile run. After Kent broke his own record for the beer mile (4 minutes, 51 seconds) on Tuesday night, he announced that he had signed with Brooks.
“It’s pretty surreal,” Kent said Wednesday. “I’ve always liked to run and drink beer, but I never thought I would be considered world class for doing both.”
Jenine Lafayette, marketing manager for Brooks Canada, would not disclose the terms of the two-year deal with Kent, other than to say the deal will pay him “more than we would pay an amateur athlete and less than we would pay an Olympian.” The deal does include bonuses should he win some of the big events on the beer mile calendar, she said.
Kent, who is on the Western Ontario track team, has a personal mile record (without beer) of 4:15. The fact that it takes him only an additional 36 seconds to tackle the beer mile makes him world class. Olympian Nick Symmonds, for example, has a personal beer mile record of 5:19.

36 seconds to chug four beers and 4:15 to run a mile is not too fucking shabby. On December 1st of this year (like, two weeks from now) the Beer Mile World Championships will take place in Austin, Texas. First place will take home a grand prize of $2,500 and if a world record is set the prize jumps up to $5,000. So this could end up being one hell of a lucrative year for Lewis Kent. By the way, in the sport of ‘Beer Mile’ if a runner throws up after drinking beer that runner is forced to run penalty laps.

I don’t want to get too sappy and emotional here, but it just warms the ever living shit out of my heart to see a bro getting rewarded for following his dreams and succeeding. So what if his dreams happen to include being really, really, ridiculously good at drinking beer and running. Chugging beer is taking him places in life, and that’s a beautiful thing.
