The man who provided the background noise for many a Sunday, Pat Summerall, died today at the age of 82. His voice was unforgettable, and he leaves us as an exceedingly rare person for two major reasons: 1. He refrained from the bombastic, over-the-top style that has unfortunately dominated the sports world lately. His voice was restrained. He let the game speak for itself. And for that, we thank him.

And I'd be remiss to not also say that Madden was never the same after he was replaced.
