Today marks the end of an era: Legendary WWE announcer Jim Ross’s contract with the WWE officially ends, meaning he gets to hang up his hat and retire. Reports are conflicting about what his next move is, but it most certainly will involve delicious BBQ and cheering on the Sooners.
Since first coming to wrestling as a kid during the Attitude Era, I feel like I grew up listening to Ross’s enthusiastic and over-the-top ringside commentary on Monday Night RAW. Listening to him call Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Shawn Michaels back in the day cemented in my mind that JR’s Okie twang is the voice of the WWE. His replacement has massive shoes fill.
Thanks for everything, JR. Let’s look back at his career in the WWE with a couple of compilations of his best calls.
Here’s another supercut:
“@zakydpikey: 3 of the greats. @JRsBBQ Thanks for your service Sir pic.twitter.com/GoV0mxLxa8” That was day 1. Great pic. Never looked back.
