James Montgomery, a senior walk-on at Northwestern, has scored a grand total of 17 points in his career. He started out as a practice player for the women’s team and has gradually stepped up his game. More important than that, though, is the impression he’s had on first-year coach Chris Collins.

During yesterday’s practice, the former Duke legend announced Montgomery was being awarded a full scholarship. His teammates reacted with great delight.

It was a great moment and a reminder that not everything in college athletics is broken.
