In what is quickly becoming an epidemic it seems like another high school referee has been targeted and assaulted by a player on the field.
Glencliff linebacker Malcolm Easley has been suspended indefinitely after a collision with a referee during last Friday’s game with.
According to The Gallatin News, the ref on the field during the game,Kyle Gill, told Easley he was getting way to close to him. On the very next play after their conversation Easley knocked Gill to the ground.
“I had spoken to the player on the play before and he told me that I was in his way,” Gill told The Gallatin News. “I asked him how long he’d been playing football and he had to realize that the referees are part of the field. I told him that he should have to avoid me and not the other way around. On the very next play, you saw what happened.”
The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association declined to discipline Easley by saying they found no intent of targeting by the player after reviewing the tape multiple times.
Easley has been suspended by Metro District Athletic Committee indefinitely while they conduct their investigation.
