Here’s a good example of a feel-good story veering violently into Controversyville. Or Nontroversyville, depending on your ability to take a joke.
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy took a ride in a restored B-17 to pay tribute to his grandfather-in-law, a WWII bombardier. It was the perfect thing for local sportscasters to put on the news and a situation ripe for Photoshops. It seemed like everyone would win.
And then McCarthy decided to take a shot at the Packers’ bitter rivals.
“Alright, let’s go bomb Chicago,” he said before boarding the plane.

As you’d expect, some Bears enthusiasts and Chicago residents weren’t too happy about the suggestion. Since this was a recreational flight and common sense is still a thing, the plane was not actually armed with live weaponry.
Disaster averted.
And it’s a good thing, too, since other Americans would probably not be totally OK with Green Bay declaring war on Chicago, even though the conflict would be over quickly.
Don’t expect any retaliation from Bears coach Marc Trestman because he is Canadian and nothing if not extremely polite.
