Golfer jumps into lake to avoid swarm of hornets

Pablo Larrazábal called it the scariest moment of his career. The Spanish golfer was standing at the fifth hole of the Maybank Malaysian Open when he was attacked by a swarm of hornets. The attack was so vicious Larrazábal jumped into a water hazard to escape.

And yes, there’s video.

Here’s Pablo Larrazábal with the details.

“They were three times the size of bees,” said Larrazábal “They were huge and like 30 or 40 of them started to attack me big time. I didn’t know what to do. My caddie told me to run, so I start running like a crazy guy, but the hornets were still there, so the other players told me to jump in the lake.

“I ran to the lake, threw my scorecard down, took off my shoes and jumped in the water. It was the scariest moment of my career, for sure. I’ve never been so scared.”

Most of his tweets came in Spanish after the round, but he offered up this update to his English-speaking followers.

“”

Pablo Larrazabal birdied the next hole after receiving treatment. He’s kind of a boss like that.
