Future of NFL viewing: YouTube streaming?

The future of NFL viewing may include YouTube streaming according to one report. Google execs met with the NFL Tuesday night to discuss picking up the Sunday Ticket package, currently operated by DirecTV.

An informal chat is a very long way from a deal, so there’s no need to invest too much in the conversation quite yet. And I’m told that Goodell and other NFL executives are meeting with multiple Silicon Valley companies on this trip, which is one they make annually.

That said, Google plus the NFL is an intriguing concept. Google could certainly afford the rights, which currently cost DirecTV $1 billion a year.

A billion dollars is a mere drop in the hat for Google. The media giant boasted $50 billion in revenue for 2012.

But I still don’t see this happening, at least, not anytime in the near future. The NFL is slow to embrace new media. They still hit fans with “copyright infringement” for highlight videos. Videos they could easily slap ads on with no hassle.

They’re a work in progress but I will say this—they move faster than MLB.

Not sure if that’s something to be proud of.
