High School Football Players Put Heinous Blindside Hits On Ref Because Of ‘Bad Call’

During a Texas high school football game between Marble Falls and San Antonio John Jay on Friday night, two players purposely and maliciously blindsided a referee with a vicious hit because of a “bad call.” The ref was clearly targeted by the two San Antonio Jon Jay players because they went out of their way to slam into the official.

The hits came late in San Antonio’s 15-9 loss at Marble Falls, first from a defensive back who was 7-yards away. This was followed by another cowardly attack that came from a player that was 9-yards away that led with his helmet while the ref was still reeling on the ground from the first cheap shot.

Northside ISD athletic director Stan Laing said the video was “very disturbing.” The district is investigating the sequence of events leading up to the play, and the University Interscholastic League is aware of what happened.

Both players were ejected, but one must wonder if that is a harsh enough punishment. The referee is not a player, so this is assault.
