This morning, we reported that Duke had taken the early lead against North Carolina on Rivalry Day. And just like that, things have swung HARD in the Tar Heels' favor.
The photo above appeared on Instagram this morning. Its caption? "Shout out to my brother and his friends for stealing the Duke mascot head and mounting it on a stake.” Due to possible illegality, the post was soon deleted.
But then, at 9 a.m., @nesjr19 tweeted another photo of the head, mounted on a spike Ned Stark-style, atop the Carolina student store. The Tweeter said, "according to the students here at #unc, there's a big game tonight. i love working on a #collegecampus." Duke officials confirmed that the head was indeed stolen, but that they have a spare. The mascot's decapitation will not be permanent.
You know, there's just something about violence against mascots that's so, so funny. Well played, Tar Heels. Well played.
