I played hockey growing up, and one thing my coaches always stressed was “throw the puck at the net. Good things will happen.”

David Backes took that advice to heart just now. With 1.8 seconds left in the first and no angle, he fired a shot and banked that baby off Ondrej Pavelec’s glove and into the net. It put the US up 3-1.

Here’s a glorious Vine of it to enjoy again and again.
