If You’re the Magic CEO, Calling Dwight Howard when you’re Drunk won’t Compel him to Stay

The Magic's franchise player Dwight Howard has a chance to bolt from Orlando after this season and he has several compelling suitors such as the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Brooklyn Nets. The Magic have until next summer to do their best to persuade Howard to re-sign with the Magic, so they need to handle every interaction with Howard very delicately, that would include not drunk dialing him in the middle of the night.

On Tuesday, Magic CEO Bob Vander Weide retired, which wasn't a big deal. That was before everyone discovered the reason for his early dismissal.

Apparently Vander Weide has a good relationship with Howard and is extremely consumed with Howard ditching the Magic and setting the franchise back a decade. The story goes that Vander Weide may have been drunk off his ass one night and called Howard at 1 A.M.  Vander Weide commented on the incident, “I was playing paddle with friends and had a couple of glasses of wine. Maybe Dwight thought it was inappropriate to talk business after a couple of glasses of wine… Maybe I should have waited until the morning.”

Yea maybe you shouldn't drown your sorrows in several glasses of shiraz and then pathetically call your star player like he was an ex-girlfriend who dumped you in college.
