Ben Affleck Took A Bold Moral Stand By Refusing To Wear New York Yankees Hat

Professional movie actor Ben Affleck has played many roles in his career, but there’s one type of sick and deranged person that even he, a highly respected Academy Award winner, refuses to portray.

A New York Yankees fan.

Affleck was asked about his working relationship with David Fincher, who directed him in Gone Girl, and revealed the only bit of trouble during production.

“That was the only fight David and I had,” Mr. Affleck said, “and it was a legitimate fight.”

During a scene set at a New York airport, Mr. Affleck’s character, Nick Dunne, tries to evade recognition by donning a baseball cap. Mr. Fincher, Mr. Affleck said, wanted the character to wear a Yankees cap, because he believed that worked best for the movie.

But Mr. Affleck, a diehard Red Sox fan, would have none of it.

“I said, ‘David, I love you, I would do anything for you,’” Mr. Affleck recalled. “‘But I will not wear a Yankees hat. I just can’t. I can’t wear it because it’s going to become a thing, David. I will never hear the end of it. I can’t do it.’ And I couldn’t put it on my head.”

What principles.

On the other hand, kudos to Affleck’s buddies for continuing to give their famous friend mounds of shit despite his standing in the Hollywood community. It’s refreshing to know that millions of dollars and international fame can’t combat peer pressure.

It should be noted that even David Ortiz donned a Yankees cap for theatrical purposes and he’s still somewhat respected in the Boston area.
