Another Dolphins player in trouble on Twitter for posting negative Michael Sam tweet

While the Miami Dolphins might not be winning on the field, they are leading the league in controversial tweets. On Thursday Dolphins Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey deleted his entire Twitter account after posting this when Miami drafted first-round pick Ja’Wuan James.

Of course this comes at a time when the Dolphins are trying to show that their franchise is not the same hostile locker room culture of bullying and harassment like former Dolphins player Richie Incognito did to Jonathan Martin. Then just 48 hours later second-year Miami player Don Jones tweeted a controversial reaction to the St. Louis Rams drafting Michael Sam in the seventh round, who became the first openly gay player drafted in the NFL.

Jones’ tweets of “OMG” and “horrible” were soon after deleted. Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey commented on Don Jones’ apparent anti-Michael Sam tweet:

“I was made aware of it and I was disappointed in those comments. That’s not what we stand for as an organization. The draft weekend is a culmination for so many players, their lifetime achievement of their dream to achieve a goal for Michael Sam and all the other players. It’s a celebration. I think it’s a great thing for the league.”

Meanwhile Hickey also said that the team plans to “sit down with Don Jones and address [the comments] and handle it appropriately.” The team also sat down with Pouncey after his ill-advised tweets. Maybe the Dolphins players should just stick to Facebook and playing a little harmless Candy Crush.
