Shockingly, Adam Greenberg Struck Out in His ‘One At-Bat’

Adam Greenberg, the baseball player whose only Major League at-bat saw him take a blazing fastball to the dome, got a chance to step into the batter’s box one more time last night as a member of the Miami Marlins. He struck out on three pitches.

Greenberg’s story has become the subject of morning shows looking to interject healthy doses of feel-goodery into the nation’s bloodstream. His former team, the Chicago Cubs, declined to grant him another at-bat, but the Marlins jumped at the opportunity.

Some say it’s an inspirational story of courage. Others claim it’s nothing more than an embarrassing publicity stunt. It’s probably a little of both.

One thing is for sure. Making him face likely National League Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey was a dick move.
