Michigan pays skywriter to put ‘Go Blue’ over Spartan Stadium

Hail to the Victors, the leaders and best in marketing stupidity. Turns out, the “Go Blue” skywriter over Spartan Stadium last week was bought and paid for by University of Michigan Athletics. It appears AD Dave Brandon is riding the marketing short bus again.

He claims the skywriter wasn’t given a specific area, they just happened to find their way to East Lansing—a city of 13.67 square miles.

Here is the “Go Blue” sign courtesy of Guyism reader Marc.

Guyism

This is a bad look for the University and even worse for Brandon, who has struggled mightily in the marketing department, coming up well short of his counterpart in East Lansing, Mark Hollis. The Spartan community to their credit turned the trolling right around. MSU Alumni Association Executive Director Scott Westerman asked fans to stop wasting their money on meaningless stuff like skywriting and instead focus on an ovarian cancer charity. That charity now has $27,000 in donations.

MSU > UM. Forever and always.
