A brief look at the growing underground sensation which is trap.
Over the past couple years producers such as Diplo and Flosstradamus have started to bridge the gap between EDM and hip hop, and in doing so inadvertently pioneered a type of music now know as "trap". Trap music, which is named after the "the trap" -- the areas where drugs are sold, originated as a type of hip hop but has now been adopted to describe a type of syncopated EDM music that sounds most like deep hip hop beats on steroids. Each of the following five tracks shows a different side of trap some more funk, others more electro, and a couple that are strangely hard to describe.
TNGHT - Higher Ground
Producers Hudson Mohawk and Lunice team up on this track off their new self titled EP.
Kanye West - Mercy (Figure Remix)
Figure brings the bass in one of the heaviest Mercy remixes around.
Baauer - Harlem Shake
Newcomer on Diplo's Mad Decent, Baaeur takes a more tribal approach on this trap track.
Dillon Francis - Masta Blasta
Dillon Francis strays from his usaul Moombah sound and produces his take on trap with this track.
Flosstradamus - Lana's Theme
Flosstradamus, one of the pioneers of trap, sample a familiar voice in their latest single.
