What were you doing on Saturday night? Hopefully you were partying like Stefon by YOLOing on the Manhattan Bridge to an impromtu rave on the bridge walkway. The guy who hosted the hottest rave in NYC on Saturday night was Alexander Shlaferman, a Bensonhurst native who dropped out of NYU and made a bunch of money from his toy company, Vante Toys. He's 19 and also behind an events company called The Xander Experience that throws "electronic events in the craziest places, and we fill it with the greatest people in the world..."
On Saturday night around 10:30 Shlaferman and 600 partygoers clogged the bike path of the Manhattan Bridge and raged with two DJs spinning EDM bangers. Eventually the NYPD came by to shut the party down and throw his ass in jail for the night, along with the two DJs, Brendon Risano and Giacomo Nacci. You know.... The whole not having a permit thing and all. They were charged with reckless endangerment, trespassing, disorderly conduct and criminal nuisance.
What I'm baffled about is the interview he gave to the New York Post and WNBC after getting out of jail. It reeks of bratty YOLO smugness Just take a look at some of these pull quotes:
"What more could you want? Everybody else is stuck in a little box they call a New York City club," he said. "We had people out in the open air for free, having the time of their life."
“We had people out in the open air for free, having the time of their life.”
“The sergeant said he’s never seen anything like that in 15 years,” said Shlaferman. “I told him, ‘Thank you.’ ”
A true visionary or an overprivileged douche way too into the concept of YOLOing? We report, you decide:
