Last night was a big one for buzz-heavy rappers, late-night TV hosts, and janitors tasked with cleaning NBC and CBS green rooms. Kendrick Lamar performed on Letterman, while Tyler, the Creator went back on the show that arguably catapulted him to fame: "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon."
Lamar went first. He kept it chill, rapping "Poetic Justice" (sans Drake), with a backing band that sounded jazzy, on time, and festival ready. Lamar would go on to perform at New York's Roseland Ballroom later that night, and by all accounts he brought the house down, thanks to a little help from A$AP Rocky and Fiddy.
Tyler, the Creator went next, debuting two new tracks (on TV at least). Fallon cracked up when showing the cover for "Wolf"—a strange, almost JCPenney portrait—and the weirdness didn't really stop there. Tyler chose to transition the soft piano number "TreeHome" into an unhinged version of "Domo 23," featuring lines delivered from on top of the piano, Jasper and Taco on hypeman duties, and more overall energy than any other rapper alive can bring.
You may notice, by the way, that Taco didn't get to have a mike. This isn't surprising, because he's, uh, not good. But! He did get to take this hilarious picture with Donald Trump backstage... so we'll call it a wash.
