Keith Urban Concert WORSE Than Most EDM Events, Results In 46 Hospitalizations, 50 Arrests, and 1 Alleged Rape

A lot of curmudgeonly people like to point their fingers at EDM and blame the scene’s culture of partying when things sour at a show. But the aftermath of a Keith Urban concert in Boston proves that it’s not EDM’s fault that people get rowdy at concerts; People get just as trashy at country concerts as they do at Avicii concerts in Beantown. So, it seems like EDM isn’t the problem; Out-of-control Massholes are the problem.

I kid. But seriously, smoke a jay, learn how to handle your booze, and chill. the. fuck. out. at. concerts, Boston.

At the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts (Great Woods to old souls like me), 46 concertgoers were hospitalized this past Saturday, mostly with alcohol problems. Another 50 were taken into police custody for a variety of incidents, the most macabre and evil being the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl in the the lawn section of the amphitheater. Via CBS Boston:

Sean Murphy, 18, of West Roxbury, was among more than 50 taken into custody. Mansfield police arrested and charged him with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.

The incident began when a witness approached an officer to report a possible rape on the front lawn of the venue, according to a Mansfield Police statement. According to a police report, a witness told an officer she approached the female who was on the ground and asked her if the “event” was consensual. She allegedly told the witness “no.”

Then the witness, “saw the female break free and run.” Police, in their statement, said a witness pushed the suspect off of the victim. The suspect then fled into the crowd.

Patrons brought the victim to get help and reunite her with her friends, according to the police statement.

Witnesses gave police a description of the suspect and closed the venue’s gates as they searched for him, according to the police statement. Police located and arrested Murphy.

Witnesses say more than a dozen people looked-on, taking photos. Police are processing those photos as evidence, according to their Facebook post.

If true, this entire incident is super fucked up and super not cool. What a creep. Here’s Murphy’s pic according to Mansfield Police:

Murphy’s lawyers are claiming it was consensual. Via Fox Boston:

The police report states that 18-year-old Sean Murphy and the victim had both been drinking during the show. When one women asked the girl if she consented and the girl said no, police were called to the scene and Murphy was taken into custody.

“Put simply, this was a consensual act, not a sexual assault,” Murphy’s lawyer said in a statement. “There are no allegations of force or violence against him. This was a private act that regrettably occurred in a public place. My. Murphy deeply regrets this incident and I am sure the young woman does as well. The young woman was neither intoxicated nor overcome by drugs at the time. My. Murphy has no criminal history whatsoever.”

He pleaded innocent and is expected to post $10,000 cash bail with a court date set for September 25.

All the hospitalizations and arrests are enough to classify the Urban show as a “mass casualty incident” in the eyes of emergency authorities. That’s the second time this has happened this summer.

Meanwhile, Kaskade weighed in on Twitter to show how the media and general public takes aim at EDM shows for terrible behavior that is, sadly, all too common at concert venues:

Country fans (…and everyone, really) needs to learn how to start smoking joints and shows and MELLOW THE FUCK OUT.
