It's always nice seeing an artist stepping a bit out of his comfort zone and still having fun making music; Hoodie Allen is doing just that. He said that this interpretation of the song came about with his band while on tour and decided that he would remake it in the studio to put it on his upcoming Americoustic EP.
It's very easy to be pigeonholed as an artist nowadays, even within your own fans who expect the one thing that made them love you to begin with. Americoustic is meant to be a fun departure for the summertime and overall a chance to reinvent some old material within a new platform!
