Earl Sweatshirt's upcoming work "Doris" is a leaking ship. Several tracks hit the Internet before its Aug. 20 release date, and the latest, "Sunday," could be an album highlight, an introspective Cali jam that reminds me more of "Chum" than the horror rap-influnced stuff of Earl.
Over a methodical, laid-back beat, guest Frank Ocean gets personal, telling a story of a high school fist fight that acts as a thinly veiled reference to Chris Brown—who jumped Ocean in a recording studio parking lot back in January. It's one of the most overt mentions yet of the Ocean-Brown beef, and Frank sounds a little pissed off. "They thought me soft in high school, thank God I’m jagged/Forgot you don’t like it rough, I mean he called me a faggot.... And why’s his mug all bloody, that was a three on one?"
As Ocean mentions, he got the last laugh in the whole thing, coming away with the "standing ovation at Staples [when] I got my Grammy’s and gold," while Brown stayed seating. Like a little petulant bitch, I might add.
